Sonya Chiles, widely known as “Sonya the SHE-EO,” is an author, Peer Recovery Specialist, life and business coach, behavioral health entrepreneur, and community advocate dedicated to helping individuals transform their lives through healing, recovery, and personal empowerment. She is the Founder of Promise Behavioral Health LLC and the nonprofit organization From Prison to Promise, where she works to bridge the gaps between behavioral health, peer support, reentry services, and community restoration.
Her passion for this work is deeply personal. As the daughter of a recovering addict and a former prison wife, Sonya has experienced firsthand the emotional, financial, and social impact that addiction, incarceration, and instability can have on individuals and families. Those lived experiences became the foundation for her mission: to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives without shame or judgment.
Through her work in behavioral health and reentry advocacy, Sonya focuses on helping individuals navigate mental health challenges, substance use recovery, emotional healing, and reintegration into society. She is especially passionate about serving underserved and rural communities by expanding access to peer-led support and recovery-centered services. Her long-term vision includes developing transitional housing and community-based programs that provide structure, support, accountability, and hope for individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration or personal hardship.
In addition to her work as a Peer Recovery Specialist, Sonya is a life and business coach who helps women and aspiring entrepreneurs develop confidence, clarity, and a growth-oriented mindset. Her coaching philosophy centers around holistic transformation—supporting people not only in achieving external success, but also in healing internally and discovering their purpose.
As an author and speaker, Sonya uses storytelling, transparency, and lived experience to inspire others to move beyond survival and step into healing and leadership. She is also the host of the “From Prison to Promise” radio show and podcast, where she amplifies real stories of resilience, recovery, and breakthrough.
Today, while happily remarried and continuing to evolve personally and professionally, Sonya remains committed to serving the community that helped shape her journey. Whether through peer support, coaching, advocacy, media, or mentorship, her mission remains the same: to help people turn pain into purpose and transform their lives from prison to promise.
